It took us more than a year to choose the right fabric for Peppelini clothes. Finally we fell in love with TENCEL™ Lyocell. And not just because of it’s incredible softness and highest quality.
What is TENCEL™ Lyocell?
The “cel” comes from it being a cellulosic fibre. The “ten” stands for tenacity. Tencel is the brand of lyocell sold by Lenzing AG. We chose fabrics from LENZING because sustainability is their core value. They have the highest and most transparent production standards. Lenzing has developed numerous innovative process technologies that make a significant contribution to the conservation of resources and thus to the protection of our environment.
TENCEL™ Lyocell helps to maintain the
environmental balance by being integrated
into nature´s cycle.
The basic raw material for TENCEL™ Lyocell i dissolving wood pulp from sustainable forestry. An organic solvent called N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide (NMMO) is used to directly dissolve the pulp without any chemical change. The technology developed by Lenzing enables more than 99 percent of the solvent to be recovered in a closed chemical loop and then fed back into the production process. This process consumes a way less water then cotton production. The fibers are certified as compostable and biodegradable, and thus can fully revert back to nature.
Softness and Breathability
It’s easy to identify TENCEL™ fibers by its exceptional, naturally soft, and smooth feel. With the Eco Soft technology, fabrics create a pleasant, almost soothing cool feeling on the skin. One more outstanding quality of fabrics is its ability to enhance breathability. The fiber absorbs and releases moisture efficiently therefore supports the body’s natural thermal regulation. Consequently, TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers provide a less favorable environment for bacterial growth.
Strength and Color Retention
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are distinguished by their high tenacity profile among cellulose fibers and retain long-lasting color vibrancy, and are less prone to fade even after repeated washing.
